After making camp the second day, Alex burns what money he carries in his wallet. It is a declaration of freedom --- letting go with no turning back --- breaking ties with the worldly ways of modern man and becoming his own man. Although there are hungry days to follow when this act may have lent itself to a tinge of regret, it is a physical demonstration that supports Alex’s fundamental belief that money steers people away from their true path. Alex is determined to follow his true path.
